Olive oil  bottle cap mould: Overview

The demand for bottle caps in the food and beverage industry is very high these days.

YuanCheng Mold is a leader in custom designed injection moulded bottle cap moulds in China. Our R&D department has developed an inner cap for olive oil bottles and solved the problem of releasing the product from the mould.


Based on the analysis of the structural characteristics of the olive inner cap, the engineers presented the principles and processes of bottle cap injection mould design and manufacture. And based on the analysis they provided, they proposed a mother-core demoulding method and a two-stage ejector mechanism. 

In spite of this, there were still problems with product discharging during the moulding process.

Design of injection mold for the inner cap of olive solution:

HDPE is the material used in the inner cap of the olive oil bottle. HDPE is the scientific name for high density polyethylene, and it is a colorless, soft and elastic material that can be used to seal the opening of the bottle.

As far as the overall structure and assembly drawing of the mold are concerned, there are two main types of molds, i.e. movable molds and fixed molds. It is composed of two parts. A mold adopts a structural shape that includes one mold and four cavities distributed into one shape, based on the structural characteristics of plastic parts and the batch size. As a result, there are 4 cavities, but they have different shapes. Generally, the gate adopts a side gate type design.

Installation of the mold on the injection molding machine, then adjustment of the injection process. The parameters required. During injection molding, plastic molten is injected along the gating system, along with a certain injection pressure, into the mold cavity. As soon as the mold is opened, the fixed mold part is fixed to the connecting plate. Moving the mold part backwards.

Precautions for mold designs

1. Design of gating system.

The olive oil  bottle cap mould gating system has a main runner, 1st stage runner, 2nd stage runner, 3rd stage runner and gate. In this process, the sleeve is formed, the 1st stage runner is machined on a stationary platen, and the 2nd and 3rd stage runner are machined on the vertical parting surface. For easy of processing, the board runner adopts a trapezoidal section, while the slider runner uses a circular section

2. Design of temperature control system and exhaust system.

As part of the mold temperature control system, the fixed mold part is opened on the fixed mold plate, while the movable mold part is provided with circulating cooling via the flap closing slider. The mold temperature is within the required range by circulating cooling water. Air is mainly used between the flap closing slider and the core in the mold exhaust system, which is called Flow of clearance.


When designing the injection mold for the inner cap of the olive oil bottle, choose the structure with 1 mold and 4 cavities based on structural characteristics. The olive oil  bottle cap mould features a fixed mold core floating and secondary ejection structure to ensure smooth release. The lower and upper openings are inverted. 

Additionally, the slider is clamped smoothly with the forced reset mechanism. We tested to verify that the mold structure is reasonable, and the plastic parts produced meet our quality requirements.
